Gayle Tzemach Lemmon

Gayle Tzemach Lemmon (born 1973) - author of two New York Times bestselling books, Ashley's War: The Untold Story of a Group of Women Soldiers on the Special Forces Battlefield (2015) and Dressmaker Khair Khana (2011) about a young entrepreneur who supported her community under the Taliban. Along with her national security work, Lemmon has written extensively for PBS NewsHour on topics such as child marriage in the United States, school choices, single moms, and the power and significance of girls' ambitions for The Atlantic.

Born to a Jewish family, the daughter of Rhoda Miriam Spielmann Zemach (died 1987) and the granddaughter of Frances Coen Spielman, an independent film distribution company of the 1940s who later founded First Run Features.

He grew up in Greenbelt, Maryland. Lemmon holds a BA in Journalism with Honors from the University of Missouri School of Journalism.
